2. Scope of This Policy
This policy applies to:
- The Fermentor app (iOS and Android)
- The Fermentor website (including cookies and analytics)
- Any related cloud or AI services operated by Studio Zoetekauw.
3. Quick Summary (What Matters Most)
- Recipe content is hosted on Fermentor’s servers and downloaded to your device when you start a recipe.
- Personal data you create (edits, timers, photos, notes, AI results) stays locally on your device by default.
- AI requests are processed briefly on our server and not stored afterwards.
- Payments go through your app store (Apple or Google); we never see your payment card data.
- Optional cloud backups or community sharing require explicit opt-in.

5. What Stays Local on Your Device
Your personal notes, recipe edits, running project states, timers, and photo diary entries remain on your device.
We cannot access, read, or delete these unless you back them up or share them.
To delete local data, remove items in the app or uninstall the app.
6. AI Processing
When you use the AI recipe feature:
- The app briefly connects to our AI processing endpoint.
- We do not store your prompts or the generated results on our servers.
- The output is returned to your device and saved locally if you choose to keep it.
If, in the future, we offer optional server-side logging or cloud AI history, we will ask for explicit consent first.
7. Backups and Sharing (Opt-In Only)
If you choose to make a cloud backup, publish a recipe, or share content:
- We will ask for explicit confirmation before uploading.
- Shared content remains on our servers until you delete it or request removal.
- You may request deletion by email; we will act within 30 days where reasonably possible.
8. Data Retention
- Local data remains under your control until you delete it.
- Shared or backed-up data is deleted when you request it.
- Minimal administrative records (e.g., versioning or compliance logs) may be kept longer where required by law.
9. Payments and Billing
Subscriptions and payments are handled by your app store (Apple App Store or Google Play). Fermentor does not collect or store payment details.
For billing issues or refunds, contact your app-store provider.
10. Sharing with Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited data with:
- Hosting providers (for recipes and assets)
- Optional AI partners (only when you opt in)
- Analytics providers (for website use, e.g. Google Analytics)
All processors are required to apply adequate technical and organizational safeguards under GDPR.
11. Cookies & Analytics
Our website uses cookies to improve performance and analyze visits.
Types of cookies:
- Essential cookies: Needed for the site to function.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): Measure usage, anonymized where possible.
- Preference cookies: Remember settings such as language.
When you visit our website, you will see a cookie banner asking for consent to non-essential cookies. You can revoke consent at any time via your browser settings.
12. Security Measures
- All communications between the app and our servers are encrypted (TLS).
- Local data is protected by your device’s security.
- We apply reasonable measures to protect data against unauthorized access or loss.
13. Your Rights (GDPR)
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:
- Access your data
- Request correction or deletion
- Request data export (portability)
- Withdraw consent at any time

Local device data cannot be accessed or deleted by us — you control it entirely.

Fermentor is designed for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18 without parental consent.

We may update this Privacy & Cookies Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top reflects the latest version.
Significant updates will be announced through the app or website.
