Pioneering Future Media Technologies
As a research teacher of Practoraat het Nieuwe Kijken, I have had the privilege of helping to set up XR-Lab in Hilversum. XR-Lab is an innovation and educational lab located at the Hilversum Mediapark, dedicated to exploring and developing future media technologies. It is a collaborative space where students and teachers engage in cutting-edge experiments through prototyping and research.
Innovative Learning Environment
At XR-Lab, students work on diverse projects, from virtual reality and augmented reality to other immersive media experiences. The lab’s structure supports a collaborative, innovative atmosphere where students and teachers can experiment, prototype, and research new technologies. This approach not only enhances their technical abilities but also fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity.
Founding and Structuring XR-Lab
XR-Lab was a result of several experimental learning environments that we developed at Mediacollege Amsterdam with a small project team. These experiments laid the groundwork for the lab’s innovative approach to education and research. I was co-responsible for this new vision on this practical, hands-on way of combining education with industry practices. I played a pivotal role in setting up the organization, including establishing the project management framework and the initial technical infrastructure of XR-Lab. This included setting up the SCRUM framework, creating repositories/WIKI’s/code conventions and realizing the organization structure.
